To Whom It May Concern:
I am delighted to nominate Connie Maynard, Town of Woodstock’s Municipal Agent for the Elderly, for the 2009 Charter Oak Chapter Heroes Breakfast.
At 74 years of age Connie Maynard is our Municipal Agent for the Elderly – a purely volunteer position, which she has dutifully held since 1993. As Agent for the Elderly, Connie is focused on assisting, supporting, and acting on the needs of our elderly residents and their families with the utmost respect for their privacy. She continually develops programs and activities that are relevant, interesting, and responsive to her peer’s needs. The following is just a glimpse of the many senior activities and programs Connie organizes:
American Red Cross Blood Drives, Meals on Wheels, geriatric assessment and driving programs, hearing tests, blood pressure and flu shot clinics, field trips, exercise programs, guest speakers for financial assistance and elder law counseling, crafts for neighboring nursing homes and shut-in visitations throughout the year.
In addition to being the Agent for the Elderly, Connie is also Agent for Special Citizens (mentally-challenged adults), Community Outreach Coordinator (liaison to local social services organizations for various issues, such as mental health, food and fuel assistance) and the founding member of the Woodstock Senior Club.
For over 15 years Connie has provided her home number for 24/7 availability in addition to offering 6.5 hours in her office every week. This past October, Connie suffered multiple injuries from a serious car accident. Thankfully, she is on the mend and is scheduled to return to work this February. Even during her recovery, Connie is making her services available from her home. Last week as part of the annual
Woodstock Town Hall Giving Tree, twenty-one of Woodstock’s senior shut-ins received holiday gift bags filled with household and personal care items thanks to Connie’s assistance.
Our senior residents are truly fortunate to have Connie as their advocate, friend and neighbor. Connie is an intelligent, generous, compassionate individual who continues to make a tremendous impact to our community. Connie always approaches her work with a caring hand and heart. We honestly do not know what we would do without her energy and enthusiasm.
Aside from the contact names listed below who will testify on behalf of Connie Maynard, we do not have supporting news articles, mainly because so many of her good deeds go unnoticed. Connie has truly made a difference to our community!
On behalf of the Town of Woodstock, thank you for considering Connie Maynard as a 2009 Hero of the Charter Oak Chapter.
Sincerely,
Allan D. Walker, Jr.
First Selectman
