RECREATION PROGRAMS  

After School Girls Volleyball: Open to all girls in 6th through 8th grade, this program is a great way to learn the game of volleyball and further develop your skills. Practices will be held on March 4, 11, 12, 18, and 20 after school from 2:30-3:30pm at the Woodstock Middle School. HIIT Fitness Class: HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training. Test your limit with this fast-paced class! Over 45 minutes we will work sets followed by active rest. We will use our body weight to work every muscle group and our cardiovascular fitness. Please bring a mat or towel and a water bottle. Classes will be held at the Soccer Field off Senexet Village Road on Tuesday mornings from 8:45 to 9:30am on March 24, 31, April 7, 14, 21, 28, May 5, and 12 with a rain date scheduled for May 19. Yoga 2020 Spring Session will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm on the following dates: March 16, 23, 30, April 6, 13, 20, 27, and May 4. Class on April 27th will be held at the Woodstock Middle School Music Room. The cost is $64 for 8 classes, $35 for 4 classes, or a drop in rate of $10 per class. Kids Yoga at Woodstock Middle School: In this class we will focus on the breath, releasing our worries, compassion for ourselves and others, listening to and respecting our bodies, as well as will be introduced to new yoga poses each week that will aid in strengthening and lengthening their bodies. Each student will receive a new crystal weekly. Each session will feature a different theme and run after school in the cafeteria on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:25pm. The schedule for yoga is as follows: Session 1 (Mindfulness) September 11 through October 9, Session 2 (Gratitude) November 13 through December 11, Session 3 (Balancing and Flexibility) February 9 through March 11, and Session 4 (Wellness) May 6 through May 27. Kids Yoga at Woodstock Elementary School: In this class we will focus on the breath, releasing our worries, compassion for ourselves and others, listening to and respecting our bodies, as well as will be introduced to new yoga poses each week that will aid in strengthening and lengthening their bodies. Guided meditation and processing through writing or drawing (student’s choice) with be incorporated. Sessions will feature a different theme and run after school in the front lobby on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30pm. The schedule for yoga is as follows: Session 1 (Animals and Transportation) October 16 through November 6, Session 2 (Seasons/Weather) January 8 through February 5, and Session 3 (Kindness and Friendship) March 25 through April 22. Flower Arrangement Workshop: Symphony Flower Farm will be hosting a Flower Arrangement Workshop on April 9th from 5 to 7pm. This class will be held at Symphony Flower Farm at 308 Route 169 here in Woodstock. Cost to attend is $40 and includes all materials of your choice. Squirt Soccer: This program is an introduction to soccer for 3 and 4-year olds. Players will have 30 minutes to learn simple drills, easy ball handling skills, and most of all just have fun learning the sport of soccer. Practices will be at the Woodstock Elementary School Soccer Field from 12:30-1pm on Saturdays May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and June 6 with a rain date scheduled for June 13. Babysitter Training Course: The purpose of this course is to provide youth 11 and over information/skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in the critical areas of leadership, safety, safe play, basic care, first aid, CPR, and professionalism. Classes will be held on May 13th and 14th at the Town Hall Lower Level Room 1 from 5pm to 8pm. Students must attend both nights to be eligible for certification. Cost is $70 and space is limited to 12 students. Click here to download the registration form.

Adult Co-Ed Basketball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Monday nights from 7:00-9:00pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 16th through June 8th for open gym basketball. If there is a holiday or half day on a Monday, we will play on Wednesday night of that week. This free program is open to anyone 18 and older. Click here to download a registration form.

Adult Co-Ed Volleyball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Tuesday nights from 7:30-10:30pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 17th through June 9th for a fun night of volleyball. There is no volleyball during school breaks and holidays. This program is open to all skills levels of players who are 18 and older. There is an annual fee of $10 per player. Youth Basketball (K-4th Grade): This program is a great way to learn the game of basketball in a fun and relaxed environment. Practices/scrimmages will be held on Saturdays, January 11/18/25, February 1/8/22/29, and March 7 at the Woodstock Middle School Gym. The schedule for Saturdays is: Kindergarten 8-8:30am, First Grade 8:30-9:15am, Second Grade 9:15-10:15am, Third Grade 10:15-11:15am, and Fourth Grade 11:15am-12:15pm. Volunteer coaches are needed and all head coaches will be comped the player registration fee. Click here to download a registration form. Registration deadline is December 27th. 

Youth Basketball (5th-8th Grade): The season will kick off with evaluation nights at the Woodstock Middle School Gym on November 20th for Girls (5th/6th Grade 7-8pm and 7th/8th Grade 8-9pm) and November 21st for Boys (5th/6th Grade 7-8pm and 7th/8th Grade 8-9pm). All interested players will be placed on a team. This night is just to further assist in creating fair rosters for all our teams. Following evaluation night, each coach will contact parents informing them on practice days/times for the season. Schedule for games will be released in December. Volunteer coaches and refs are needed. All head coaches will be comped the player registration fee. Click here to download a registration form. Events

Team Up to Clean Up Woodstock: Celebrate Earth Month by participating in the Town Wide Clean Up Event presented by The Woodstock Recreation Department and Woodstock Conservation Commission anytime through the month of April. This event is made possible by a grant from The Last Green Valley. Thank you to the Woodstock Highway Department for supporting this event as well. Those who participate will be entered into a drawing to win gift certificates from Sprucedale Gardens. Simply fill out a registration form with completed Trash Tracker form and email to the Recreation Department. Notify the Recreation Director by email of trash pick up locations along with the submission of the registration packet. Click here to download a registration packet.

Memorial Day Road Race: This year marks the 40th Annual Memorial Day 10K Road Race on Monday, May 25th. We are adding an additional 5K route to the race this year! The 5k race is geared towards families and novice runners. Cost is $25 if you register before May 8th and $30 if you register after. Participants who register before April 25th will receive a free athletic t-shirt! Runners of all ages are welcome to join with awards for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each division. Both races are scheduled to begin at 9am sharp by the Woodstock Academy. Following the race, stay and watch the annual Memorial Day Parade at 11:30am. Click here to download the registration form. 

Town-Wide Tag Sale: The 8th Annual TOWN-WIDE TAG SALE will be held on Saturday, June 6th from 8:00 a.m. – Afternoon (rain date scheduled for Sunday, June 7th). All Woodstock residents, businesses, and organizations may participate. A $15 registration fee will place your location on the tag sale map which will be available for the public to purchase. If you only have a few items to sell, contact the Recreation Department to reserve your spot at the Woodstock Town Hall for $10. Business advertising space is also available on the map at a cost of $25 for standard business card size. Advertising is available to all Woodstock residents and area businesses on a first-come, first-served basis. Maps will be available for purchase beginning May 26th thru June 5th in the First Selectman’s Office for $2.00 per map during normal business hours. Maps will also be available the morning of Saturday, June 6th at the Town Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Deadline to register is Monday, May 18th to be included on the map. Senior Corner

Wii for SeniorsWii Gaming for Woodstock Seniors: The Wii Gaming System is a fun, interactive program that promotes healthy lifestyles through physical active play. Games include tennis, bowling, golf, and dancing. Games are played on a big screen with the use of hand held controllers. The cost is FREE. Please contact the recreation director to schedule your introductory session. All participants must fill out a waiver of liability prior to using the game system. Community Kitchen - Every Monday at noon at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock there is a community kitchen event. Local churches take turns each week preparing and serving a free meal for all guests who come. Meals are not served on Holidays, and when Woodstock schools are cancelled.

Tai Chi - Every Tuesday and Thursday there is a free, informal Tai Chi class offered at the East Woodstock Congregational Church from 10-11 am.

Motor

Boston Flower and Garden Show: Join the Thompson and Woodstock Recreation Department on a trip to the Boston Flower and Garden Show on Saturday, March 14th. Bus will leave Thompson Middle School at 8:30am and return home at approximately 6:30pm. Cost is $52 per person for Thompson/Woodstock Residents and $57 for Non-Residents.
